Wlodzimierz Tetmajer lived from 1862 to 1923.  Wlodzimierz Przerwa-Tetmajer (1862 – 1923)was the half brother of Kazimierz the renowned poet.  He studied painting from an early age, starting classes at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow in 1875, and intermittently continuing these studies until 1895 - initially with Franciszek Cynk, Leopold Loeffler and Wladyslaw Luszczkiewicz and after 1889 with Jan Matejko.  In parallel he studied classical philology at the Jagiellonian University.  In 1882 he was still studying at the Vienna Academy, and in 1886-89 at the Munich Academy with Alexander Wagner.

He completed his studies at the Paris Académie Colarossi.  The imperial scholarship enabled him to travel to Rome.
